Past and Present
1953 - 1954 Board
The American Women's Club of Lebanon (AWC), established in 1952 by 14 American women residing in Lebanon, has a rich history that spans over 70 years. Initially, the club was comprised of American women who were married to businessmen, educators, and clergymen from the United States. The inaugural gathering brought together 50 founding members and took place at the newly opened Hotel Bristol on the memorable occasion of Washington's Birthday in 1953.
As the years rolled by, our club's membership expanded to include American women living in Lebanon and also Lebanese women who had gained US citizenship. Embracing diversity and inclusivity, the AWC became a meeting point for individuals with a shared cultural background, fostering a sense of unity and friendship among its members. Today we also welcome expat women from various countries who reside in Lebanon and share our vision and values to join us on this remarkable journey.
Our organization, which is a non-profit entity, has consistently worked towards upholding the dreams and aspirations of our esteemed founding members. Through various initiatives and events, we strive to provide unwavering support and invaluable guidance to our members, empowering them to pursue their passions and goals while forming lifelong connections.
As we approach our golden anniversary, we look back with pride at the accomplishments of our club and its impact on the lives of countless women in Lebanon. Looking ahead, we are committed to continue building a strong and inclusive community that embraces the needs and interests of our members.
